America Recycles--But Not Enough Yet!

On Arecycling.jpgmerica Recycles Day on November 15, The U.S Environmental Protection
Agency released the 2007 Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)
Characterization report. This report contains data on the
generation and disposal of waste in the United States,
and helps measure the success of waste reduction and
recycling programs across the country.
The report shows that Americans recycled and composted
85 million tons of the 254 million tons of total municipal solid waste
produced last year. Each person produced 4.6 pounds of trash per day, of which 1.5
pounds were recycled or composted. Recycling has increased slightly over
2006, when people recycled and composted around 82 million tons of the
251 million tons of total municipal solid waste produced.

Nov. 15, 2008, marked the eleventh anniversary of America Recycles Day, a
day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled
products. More than 35 states held America Recycles Day events,
with state and local governments, non-profit organizations, and large
industry partners promoting recycling efforts. America Recycles Day is
supported by the National Recycling Coalition and sponsored by EPA.

Elude the Crude:

Mark Howard Turns Vegetable Oil Waste into Clean Fuel

If your car or truck  runs on diesel and you haven't yet  heard about converting to “veggie oil”, or if you are a restaurateur who needs to get rid of your waste vegetable oil, you may want to get to know Mark Howard.  Mark buys  waste vegetable oil from restaurants , cleans it and sells it for much less than diesel to vehicle owners who have converted their diesel engines to run on veggie oil.  We got to know Mark  at the Earth Day event at the Natick Collection  in this past April.

Now you can watch a clip of him on this video:
