I.        Minutes of the July Meeting were approved.

            Thank you’s:

·        Andrea, Ardys and Amy Moore for their work at the Swap Shop

·        Karl for writing the July minutes

·        Andrea for her work on the welcome bins

II .Announcements, Old and New Business

  1. Carol urged any Committee members available to help with the Swap Shop during the next few weeks since Andrea will be on vacation.
  2. The Committee discussed Selectman Peck’s suggestion that we give away green recycling bins to townspeople during the Fall Cleanup Day.
  3. VOTE: The Committee voted to purchase 100 new green recycling bins with the intention that 50 would be given away for Fall Cleanup Day.  The current cost to the Town is $6.45/bin plus shipping.
  4. Carol announced that the stickers ordered from MassRecycle have arrived.  Twelve have been given to the Town of Natick as a goodwill gesture and others will be put on public recycling receptacles around town.
  5. Carol discussed her work with Natick and Framingham to make a request for Technical Assistance and funding from DEP to help the Natick Mall (aka Natick Collection) implement recycling.  She is also asking for a coordinator’s toolkit and educational materials for Sherborn.  In addition, Carol has suggested to the Board of Selectmen that they apply for help with energy savings retrofits and talked with CM&D about the possibility of applying for a diesel retrofit for two off-road construction vehicles.
  6. The Committee agreed to finish its year-long monitoring of the number of mattresses and stuffed chair/couches left at the Transfer Station.
  7. Carol announced that Interstate Batteries has decided that it will not collect NiCd batteries.  She will investigate other potential recyclers.
  8. The Committee’s website has not been updated.  Carol will continue to try to reach Diane Veitch to find out if she still wants to work on this.
  9. Ron discussed the situation with paper recycling at Pine Hill School.  They have switched away from Conigliaro, but we don’t know who the new vendor is.  The vendor is taking both the waste and recycling.
  10. The next Household Hazardous Waste day is Saturday, Sept. 15.  Carol will make and send a postcard to Town residents.  Volunteers are needed to help run the event.
  11. Tonnage report:

      In July –

Refuse: 13 trips to Millbury, 2 fewer than June and tonnage is way down.

Paper: 8 trips, 1 less than last month and tonnage is down significantly.

Commingled: 3 trips, 2 fewer than last month and tonnage is down.
